For enhanced safety, the front and second-row seat shoulder belts of the Infiniti QX80 have pretensioners to tighten the seatbelts and eliminate dangerous slack in the event of a collision and force limiters to limit the pressure the belts will exert on the passengers. The Jeep Grand Cherokee L doesn’t offer pretensioners for its second-row seat belts.

The QX80 Autograph has a standard front seat center airbag, which deploys between the driver and front passenger, protecting them from injuries caused by striking each other in serious side impacts. The Grand Cherokee L doesn’t offer front seat center airbags.

With its standard ProPILOT Assist 1.1, the Infiniti QX80 is better at preventing collisions with pedestrians than the Jeep Grand Cherokee L, according to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety:

Both the QX80 and the Grand Cherokee L have standard driver and passenger frontal airbags, front side-impact airbags, driver and front passenger knee airbags, side-impact head airbags, height adjustable front shoulder belts, four-wheel antilock brakes, traction control, electronic stability systems to prevent skidding, crash mitigating brakes, daytime running lights, lane departure warning systems, blind spot warning systems, rearview cameras, rear cross-path warning and available all wheel drive.

The Infiniti QX80 weighs 880 to 1561 pounds more than the Jeep Grand Cherokee L. The NHTSA advises that heavier vehicles are much safer in collisions than their significantly lighter counterparts.

The Insurance Institute for Highway Safety does 40 MPH moderate front offset crash tests on new cars. In this updated test, results indicate that the QX80 is much safer than the Grand Cherokee L:

Side impacts caused 23% of all road fatalities in 2018, down from 29% in 2003, when the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety introduced its side barrier test. In order to continue improving vehicle safety, the IIHS has started using a more severe side impact test: 37 MPH (up from 31 MPH), with a 4180-pound barrier (up from 3300 pounds). The results of this newly developed test demonstrates that the Infiniti QX80 is safer than the Grand Cherokee L:

The Infiniti QX80 has achieved the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety’s (IIHS) highest rating of “Top Safety Pick Plus” for the 2025 model year. This distinction is based on its exceptional performance in IIHS’ rigorous battery of safety tests. Specifically, it earned a “Good” rating in the latest, more stringent moderate overlap front crash test, a “Good” result in the updated side impact test, and a “Good” score in the revised pedestrian crash prevention test. The Grand Cherokee L is not even a standard “Top Safety Pick” for 2025.

Warranty

The QX80 comes with a full 4-year/60,000-mile basic warranty, which covers the entire truck and includes 24-hour roadside assistance. The Grand Cherokee L’s 3-year/36,000-mile basic warranty expires 1 year or 24,000 miles sooner.

Infiniti’s powertrain warranty covers the QX80 1 year and 10,000 miles longer than Jeep covers the Grand Cherokee L. Any repair needed on the engine, transmission, axles, joints or driveshafts is fully covered for 6 years or 70,000 miles. Coverage on the Grand Cherokee L ends after only 5 years or 60,000 miles.

The QX80’s corrosion warranty is 2 years longer than the Grand Cherokee L’s (7 vs. 5 years).

Infiniti pays for scheduled maintenance on the QX80 for 1 year longer than Jeep pays for maintenance for the Grand Cherokee L (3 years vs. 2 years).

Reliability

J.D. Power and Associates’ 2024 Initial Quality Study of new car owners surveyed provide the statistics that show that Infiniti vehicles are better in initial quality than Jeep vehicles. J.D. Power ranks Infiniti above average in initial quality. With 13 more problems per 100 vehicles, Jeep is rated below average.

Engine

The QX80’s 3.5 turbo V6 produces 157 more horsepower (450 vs. 293) and 256 lbs.-ft. more torque (516 vs. 260) than the Grand Cherokee L’s 3.6 DOHC V6.

As tested in Car and Driver the Infiniti QX80 is faster than the Jeep Grand Cherokee L:

Transmission

A nine-speed automatic is standard on the Infiniti QX80, for better acceleration and lower engine speed on the highway. Only an eight-speed automatic is available for the Grand Cherokee L.

Tires and Wheels

For better traction, the QX80 has larger tires than the Grand Cherokee L (275/60R20 vs. 265/60R18).

For better ride, handling and brake cooling the QX80 has standard 20-inch wheels. Smaller 18-inch wheels are standard on the Grand Cherokee L. The QX80 Luxe/Sensory/Autograph’s 22-inch wheels are larger than the 21-inch wheels optional on the Grand Cherokee L Summit.

The Infiniti QX80’s wheels have 6 lugs for longer wheel bearing life, less chance of rotor warping and greater strength. The Jeep Grand Cherokee L only has 5 wheel lugs per wheel.

Suspension and Handling

For better handling and stability, the average track (width between the wheels) on the QX80 is 2.6 inches wider in the front and 2.5 inches wider in the rear than the track on the Grand Cherokee L.

The QX80 Autograph AWD handles at .78 G’s, while the Grand Cherokee L Overland pulls only .75 G’s of cornering force in a Motor Trend skidpad test.

For greater off-road capability the QX80 Pure has a 1.1 inches greater minimum ground clearance than the Grand Cherokee L Laredo/Limited (9.6 vs. 8.5 inches), allowing the QX80 to travel over rougher terrain without being stopped or damaged.

Chassis

As tested by Car and Driver, the interior of the QX80 Autograph AWD is quieter than the Grand Cherokee L Limited 4x4:

Passenger Space

The QX80 offers optional seating for 8 passengers; the Grand Cherokee L can only carry up to 7.

The QX80 has 2.5 inches more front legroom, 2.5 inches more front hip room, 5 inches more front shoulder room, 3.6 inches more rear hip room, 5.7 inches more rear shoulder room, 2.6 inches more third row legroom, 8.8 inches more third row hip room and 11.2 inches more third row shoulder room than the Grand Cherokee L.

For enhanced passenger comfort on long trips the QX80’s middle and third row seats recline. The Grand Cherokee L’s third row seats don’t recline.

Cargo Capacity

The QX80’s cargo area provides more volume than the Grand Cherokee L.

The QX80 has a standard third row seat which folds flat into the floor. This completely clears a very large cargo area quickly. The Grand Cherokee L doesn’t offer seats that fold into the floor.

The QX80’s standard towing capacity is much higher than the Grand Cherokee L’s (8500 vs. 3500 pounds).

The QX80 has a higher standard payload capacity than the Grand Cherokee L (1455 vs. 1370 lbs.).

The QX80 has a higher maximum payload capacity than the Grand Cherokee L (1455 vs. 1400 lbs.).

Servicing Ease

J.D. Power and Associates surveys of service recipients show that Infiniti service is better than Jeep. J.D. Power ranks Infiniti 7th in service department satisfaction (above the industry average). With a 19% lower rating, Jeep is ranked 21st.

Ergonomics

The QX80’s front and rear power windows all open or close fully with one touch of the switches, making it more convenient at drive-up windows and toll booths, or when talking with someone outside the car. The Grand Cherokee L’s standard rear power window switches have to be held the entire time to open them fully. Only its driver’s window closes automatically.

The QX80’s standard Infiniti Intelligent Key allow you to unlock the doors from any outside door handle, open the cargo door, and start the engine, all without removing the key from the pocket or purse. Keyless Enter-N-Go standard on the Grand Cherokee L doesn’t offer a sensor on the rear doors, so you’ll have to reach a front handle to unlock the rear door.

The QX80’s rain-sensitive wipers adjust their speed and turn on and off automatically based on the amount of rainfall on the windshield. This allows the driver to concentrate on driving without constantly adjusting the wipers. The Grand Cherokee L’s standard intermittent wipers change speed with vehicle speed, but can’t turn on and off or change speed based on changing rainfall.

The Infiniti QX80 has power folding mirrors that offer unparalleled convenience while maneuvering in tight places or parked. With the mirrors folded it’s easier to walk past and help prevent parking damage. The mirrors can be quickly unfolded when the driver is ready to leave. Power folding mirrors are only offered on the Grand Cherokee L Overland/Summit.

The QX80 has standard heated front, second and third row seats; a heated third is standard on the QX80 Autograph, which keep the driver and passengers extremely comfortable in the winter. Jeep doesn’t offer heated seats in the third row of the Grand Cherokee L.

The QX80 has a standard heated steering wheel to take the chill out of steering on extremely cold winter days before the vehicle heater warms up. A heated steering wheel costs extra on the Grand Cherokee L.

Both the QX80 and the Grand Cherokee L offer available massaging front seats. The QX80 Autograph also has standard massaging second row seats in order to maximize comfort and eliminate fatigue on long trips. Massaging second row seats aren’t available in the Grand Cherokee L.

The Infiniti QX80 has a standard Homelink wireless remote control system for garage door operation and device management, conveniently located for the driver. Homelink® eliminates the need for separate garage door openers and associated risks of losing, breaking, or having dead batteries. Homelink® is only available on the Grand Cherokee L Limited/Overland/Summit.

To quickly and conveniently keep personal devices charged without cables tangling and wearing out, the Infiniti QX80 has a standard wireless phone charging system (Qi) in the center console. Wireless charging costs extra on the Grand Cherokee L.
